Hundreds of people have been killed, and in the 1990s femicide became a disturbing element in the violence. Neighborhoods around town have become the setting for acts of brutality, corruption, and homicide, forcing many to flee their homes. Not only houses lie abandoned, but also businesses and places of leisure. Despite all this, leisure activities and community life carry on, in an atmosphere of apparent calm, of resignation in the face of the impossibility of change.
